My name is Natalie, and I recently joined the PAO team to help with women’s ministry. It is my desire to help unify and amplify the great things that are already happening, as well as dream with you about how we might inspire this group to love God and one another more wholeheartedly. It is my sincere prayer that the gifts among this group would be unleashed to see Christ increase in our lives so that His glory, His Kingdom, and His gospel would go forth.
I wanted to share a little snippet of my heartbeat for this ministry, as encapsulated in 2 Corinthians 4:5-6 (NIV):
“What we preach is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake. For God, who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness,’ made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ.”
There are several gems from this passage that I hope will mark our hearts and actions at PAO:
For God’s Glory:
As the end of Paul’s doxology in Romans 11 says, “For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever.” What a wondrous and joyful experience it is when we forget about ourselves in the presence of God’s greatness and are caught up in worship. In these moments our hearts burst with joy over the reality that we were created to bring glory to God. I pray that we would zealously desire to bring glory to God in all things, and find deep satisfying joy in Him as a result.
Preaching Jesus Christ as Lord (i.e. the Gospel):
Just as Jesus and the Gospel are the main emphasis of the Bible, I pray that any efforts of mine within PAO would be marked by a Christ-centered, Gospel-centered, Bible-saturated focus. While life and faith are incredibly complex, they are also built upon simple, unchanging, remarkable foundations that I know I need to be reminded of over and over again. As John Piper says, “We never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never outgrow our need for the Gospel.” I pray that we will learn how to preach Jesus Christ as Lord and the Gospel to ourselves every day. (You simply must take a few minutes to watch this incredible gospel presentation by John Piper and Britt Merrick)
Knowledge of Christ as our Greatest Goal:
John 17:3 remarkably states: “Now this is eternal life: that they know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent.” Eternal life is defined here as a quality of life marked by intimately knowing God, not a quantity of living forever. Eternal life actually starts now for anyone who is in Christ, and can be experienced in ever-increasing degrees as we grow in intimacy with the person of Jesus. I pray that we can journey together into greater depths of intimacy with Jesus.
Your Servants for Jesus’ sake:
We are co-laborers with Christ, empowered by His Spirit to serve others. Our motivation to serve is for Jesus’ reputation and glory and for the edification of others. Just as Jesus emptied Himself and came as a servant, so I seek to follow His example.
Revelation (Light of the knowledge. . . ):
We do not discover God and His truth, or His Gospel, through our effort, our intelligence (our natural mind), or even our desire. We are utterly dependent upon Him for this revelation. We have access to God’s very own mind (1 Corinthians 2:16) when the written Word becomes living and active in our hearts through the work of the Spirit. I pray that we can interact deeply with God’s revelatory thoughts as found in Scripture so that our hearts may be pierced and transformed.
I am so excited to get to know each one of you more!
