Our Eyes Are On You

October 28, 2015

I am a horrible decision maker. So is my mom. When we go to lunch together, it takes us a laughable amount of time to decide where to eat. And while waffling on small decisions may not make a difference in the long run, indecisiveness about bigger issues can bring out stress, anxiety, and fear in my heart.

Thankfully, the very nature of baseball life has forced me to learn how to seek God in all of our big decisions. Where should we live? Should we travel together, or should I stay home? Should we coach college or professional? Should we go back early to start school or homeschool our kids?

These are huge decisions about our life! Decisions that easily freak me out when I try to make them apart from God.

The other day, I was reading through 2 Chronicles and came across the perfect prayer for an indecisive person like me. It’s from Jehoshapat, and he says, “We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.”

People ask me all the time about our plans for the future, and this prayer honestly sums it up. I have no idea, but my eyes are on God. I trust Him completely with this baseball life, as long as He wants us to be in it.

And when I fully trust God, my heart is free from fear. Free from anxiety. Free from worry.

So when you don’t know what to do, fix your eyes on Him.

“…the eyes of their bodies were lifted up in prayer to Him, and the eyes of their souls, of faith, hope, expectation, and desire were fastened on Him.” John Gill

Prayer: God, Thank You for this great reminder to seek You in every big decision. May I always fix my eyes on You.
